Oh. My. Gosh. Today I ran three miles on a new trail and it was the hardest thing I've ever done.
Okay to start, I found this trail in Folsom that I thought would be a good place to get a change of scene. I woke up at 8 and didn't get there till about 9:50. I couldn't find the stupid trail! And once I finally found it there were about a million different trails to follow. So the whole morning started in complete confusion. But once I started, things settled down and I started to see how awesome this trail was.
There were little ponds with ducks, and these flowers dotted the entire trail although this was the biggest concentration of them.

How cute, right?

Penny enjoyed them too :)
Also, check out her new pink leash. It goes around my waste so I can go hands free and have her still by my side. It's super brilliant.
Anyway, as I continued on the trail I found this mysterious picture. Tell me guys what you think it means.

Chewbacca go this way? Big foot only? We may never know.
After I passed that I reached this large wood bridge that lasted for a good bit of the trail. It smelled like the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, and look how beautiful it was!

Such an awesome trail!
So do you guys wanna know how unhealthy I am? I'm trying to phase myself into running all the time so I run for three minutes and then walk for three minutes. Next week I'll be running for four minutes, walking for two. It will continue that way till I find myself running the entire time. It's been really helpful so far but it just goes to show you how unhealthy I am. Three minutes of running sometimes nearly does me in. Which is what happened once I hit mile number 3. Every single time my 3 minutes of walking was up I was at a hill. Because I don't want to let myself down, I ran up every hill. I swear I hit at least five million because by my last hill I was on the verge of tears. Penny kept looking back at me with all this concern because she was pretty much pulling me up every hill. With this journey I am literally at square one. I feel so weak but each day I feel myself get stronger. As long as I keep comparing myself to myself and not the skinny blonde that passes me then I'll be okay. (And of COURSE she's not breathing heavy...or sweating...pretty much a witch with a b).
Also, I was absolutely floored by all the comments I got on my last post. Thank you guys so much! I got a ton of helpful information. I know I'm just going to have to deal with the whole preparation thing, especially if I want to improve my running and health overall. You guys have truly amazed me though. I'm so grateful that I've had so much help through this whole thing.
Day 13!! WOO!!
That trail is sooo beautiful that I want to come out and walk it with you just to see how ugly it looks when the Sally-hotness graces it with her presence. I love you so much!
ReplyDeleteSally, this is so cool. Very, VERY inspiring. Thanks for writing about and sharing this adventure of yours. I've heard a lot of first-time marathoners say that once you get there, it is actually easier to keep running than stopping and starting. As a runner who shuffles along at a mediocre pace for a few miles, I actually think you are probably working harder doing the intervals--which is likely improving your fitness level a lot faster! So--go you!
